This rock was in the backyard when we moved in. Thought it looked interesting so I brought it in, been using it as a paper weigh for years. As with anything I picked it up, I lost my grip when it hit the floor it broke, it's still a paper weight and fun when people try to pick it up and it falls apart.
Did look up what kind of rock it was. It's from a class of sedimentary rock's. A conglomerate is a clastic sedimentary rock that contains rounded clasts. The space between the clasts is generally filled with smaller particles and/or a the matrix that binds the large clasts together can be a mixture of sand, mud and chemical cement. chemical cement that binds the rock together.
As the chemical cement dries out it breaks down so the rock falls apart.

Cool rock! Have a great weekend! Mary
Oh, I like it, that's neat!
Thank's! enjoy the weekend.
Hee hee that is cool.
Okay, I have a science question. Did I recently hear a doctor mention "clasts" as being spaces in our bones being a glue made up of protein. That some of what causes bone loss as we age is the protein breaking down (like your rock!)And older people eat less protein, anyway. Now they're telling us that calcium supplements can hurt more than help. (Sorry, didn't mean to get so serious...lol!)
Karen, "clasts" are a chemical mixture that is like cement. Have not hear much about, it working inside the body.
Yes, I also heard the same about calcium and also vitamin D, I have to watch how much I take because of other health issues I have. Like the saying goes too much of a good thing can be bad for you!
